Where small firms actually fail
Not on insurance, and not on intent. The assessment is against the SSIP Core Criteria, and the one that catches small contractors is Criterion 10 — risk assessment leading to a safe system of work. It doesn't want a folder of generic assessments with somebody else's firm name in the footer. It wants risk assessments and method statements for a real job, describing your work, dated within the last 12 months, and COSHH assessments for the substances you actually use.

Launch pricing, and it's for CHAS Standard — which is what tenders asking for "CHAS" almost always mean. CHAS Advanced and Elite cover a great deal more ground and are quoted separately. CHAS charge their own annual membership fee directly, on top of ours, and you pay them for it.
The free-fix promise
If a CHAS assessor knocks back a document we generated, send us their feedback and we fix it free and send it back — within one working day.
We'll be straight about the limit, because it matters: that covers our documents. It does not cover the real-world items no document can invent — insurance you haven't bought, training certificates nobody has sat, cards that have expired, a named competent adviser you haven't appointed. If the assessor's feedback is about one of those, we'll tell you plainly that it's a real-world gap rather than a wording one, and exactly what closes it. What we won't do is charge you to re-word something that was ours to get right.
Questions people actually ask
What's the real difference between the pack and done-for-you?
Who does the form-filling and who talks to the assessor. On the pack you get the documents and you submit them yourself. From £295 we submit the application, deal with the assessor's questions however many rounds it takes, and stay with it until it's decided. Same documents underneath.
Are these just templates with my name in them?
No — and it's the distinction Criterion 10 is built to catch. Your risk assessments, method statement and COSHH assessments are generated from your trade and the answers you give about how you actually work, so they name your hazards, your kit and your people. What we can't do is invent a real job you haven't done: the fastest way to make the pack bulletproof is to tell us about one specific recent job, and we'll write it to that.
Do you guarantee I'll pass?
No, and be wary of anyone who does. The assessor's decision is theirs and rests on evidence only you can supply. What we guarantee is the free-fix promise above, and on the done-for-you service that we keep resubmitting until the application is decided at no extra charge.
How fast is "within one working day"?
Measured from your payment clearing, for the Submission Pack. If we're waiting on an answer from you, the clock starts when you've answered. Nothing here is automated-and-forgotten: a person reads every pack before it goes out.
Which trades can you do?
Scaffolding, roofing, electrical, groundworks and civils, landscaping, and painting and decorating have full trade content. Other trades we build to the same structure — tell us what you do on the form and we'll say straight away whether it's a one-working-day job or needs a little longer.
Is CHAS's own fee included?
No. CHAS bills you directly for membership — roughly £349–£749 + VAT a year depending on the level and your headcount at the time of writing. That's separate from our fee whichever plan you pick, and you pay them for it.
Whose responsibility is health and safety once I've got the pack?
Yours, exactly as it was before. You review and sign the documents, at which point they're your documents and your statement. We prepare and submit paperwork; we don't do site inspections, we don't give health and safety advice, and holding an accreditation doesn't move legal duty off you.
